Myofascial Release Massage
Myofascial release is a slow, hands-on technique that works on fascia, the thin connective tissue that wraps around every muscle in your body. When fascia gets tight or stuck it can pull on the areas around it, so you feel stiff, restricted or sore in places that never seem to let go. Your therapist uses gentle, sustained pressure and long, slow stretches to help it soften and move freely again.
Deep tissue massage works into the muscle with firm, focused pressure. Myofascial release is slower. Your therapist sinks in gradually, waits for the tissue to soften, then follows it as it lets go, often with little or no oil so they can hold the tissue rather than glide over it. It can feel like a strong stretch from the inside, and many people are surprised by how much lighter and looser they feel afterwards without a lot of force.
Your therapist will start with a quick chat about where you feel tight and how you move day to day. They will then work slowly through those areas and the ones connected to them, holding each stretch for a little while before moving on. Let them know how the pressure feels as you go. It is normal to feel a little tender for a day afterwards, so drink some water and keep moving gently.
Myofascial release is part of a remedial massage at Sage, so there is nothing extra to pay. Most of our remedial therapists offer it. Add “myofascial release” to your booking notes and we will make sure you are with the right therapist.
Please check with your doctor before booking if you have had recent surgery or an injury that has not been assessed, a blood clot or DVT, or pain that is getting worse and has not been looked at. Let us know when you book and we will tailor the session to suit.
